Boudoir Shoot to Celebrate Ageing
My story:
A follower of mine living in the USA had forwarded a photo to
Marina without my knowledge saying he thought I would be a good candidate for the brand ambassador role. Because of this Marina forwarded me an application form and as we say the rest is history. If it wasn’t for Chris I would never have known about such things. I’m fortunate that he believes in the beauty of older women and particularly for them to embrace all their imperfections and love every wrinkle or scars as a sign of them having lived an honest life.
I, like many, believed that we had become invisible to others after 40 and particularly after 50+
It took Instagram to change my mind on this. So many people, in fact, appreciate the beauty of older women and there are so many wonderful sites that promote and support ageing women and their body image. Women are supporting women.
I just loved being in my 60’s this was a great decade for me. Retired, grandchildren, travel, and I had a huge mind block on turning 70 last year. I didn’t want to be 70 I was dragged kicking and screaming out of the 60’s. This was totally ridiculous as I realised I had made it to 70 when others had not had the opportunity. Nothing had changed. It’s a number nothing else. I didn’t feel or look different so I now wake up every day with new vigour to live life to the max.
Why did I want to be a brand ambassador? Because I don’t have a perfect body. I carry a lot of weight around my middle section and tummy but I dress well to hide it. I carry scars on both legs. But those scars remind me I’m a cancer survivor.
For almost 20 years I wore long pants. Then one day I just said to myself this is it. No more cover-up. I wear short dresses and love them. Because I loved it I became confident and because I was confident nobody noticed the scars on my legs.
I’ve realised that I’ve grown comfortable with my imperfect body. Personality, kindness and many other features we all have often are what makes us attractive to others. Having an opportunity to do this boudoir shoot was to celebrate my ageing and for me to break free and be me the way I see myself and not the way others think I should be. To show other women that one is still attractive if she believes in herself and is comfortable in her body.
This photo shoot is a celebration of life, of aging and accepting the body we been given.
As a child, I always wanted to be a movie star. I mentioned to Marina and she said “be a star this is your time”
She brought out the best in me with words of encouragement. Every time I hear a YES! Beautiful, or fantastic I went with the flow. She was on the floor in corners and on chairs snapping away. Amazing and so professional. We laughed as I could not get some poses and had to be placed. It was an amazing experience I was on a High and I would do it all over again on a heartbeat. It felt good and I want other women to feel the same.
Then came the reveal of the photos. They were amazing. Of course some I liked more than others but they were honest and they were me. I felt proud and happy and kept saying wow oh! Wow. Haha, I look upon them as my Marilyn Monroe moment!
So thank you, Marina, for this opportunity. For your genuine warmth, love and professionalism. I think you always leave a little of yourself in each portrait you take. To end this way too long story these words to all women out there:
