Virtual Boudoir Session I

When Covid-19 situation turned quite serious in Australia and the restrictions were coming in hourly, I was worried about so many people losing their jobs and then I realised I was one of them. My partner and I had a conversation about how some businesses can move completely/partly online more or less easy and some just have no other option as to close their doors. In an attempt to help my partner suggested that I offer virtual photoshoots. He has seen me doing pre-session consultation via Zoom. I was shocked. I am a professional photographer! What about the quality? How can he even think that?

Well, a few days later I saw a Canadian Boudoir Photographer posting about her experiment with Zoom Boudoir Shoots and how fun and uplifting and creative they were. It turned out my partner might be a genius. Maybe I should listen more often to his suggestions.

I decided to give it a go.

Here is what one of my models has to tell about her experience.

“Times of crisis call for adapting to change. Who would ever think it would be possible to “pose” via Zoom for a boudoir photo session? Well, nothing will keep a creative woman down and Marina wanted to step up for the challenge; but was I prepared to step out of my comfort zone too?

The morning of my ‘boudoir by Zoom’ photo shoot dawned bright and clear. I was a bit nervous and scared as I curled my hair and put my mascara on. ‘Would I smile right, could I pose properly and how could I ever look beautiful in lingerie.’ All these and a million other questions raced through my mind.

I sent through a few happy snaps of my bedroom to Marina so she could get an idea of what her ‘working’ space was like. My bedroom certainly doesn’t look like it belongs in a magazine but it’s filled with things I love that make it a beautiful haven.

After connecting on Zoom and figuring out how to position my mobile...(in a crystal vase) we began.

I was rather nervous at the beginning but gradually relaxed as Marina directed my posing from the other side of my mobile screen. She certainly made me feel calm, comfortable and relaxed in such a short time. Being in front of the camera isn’t something I enjoy at all so I was surprised at how natural and comfortable Marina made me feel.

We had lots of laughs as I attempted posing my ‘booty’, moving my mobile around and fluffing my pillows!

Then was the expectant waiting for a sneak peek at my images. I was nearly scared to open my messages and see my pictures when the text from Marina came through. I wasn’t expecting to see these beautiful, feminine, sensual model-like images looking back at me. I was very overwhelmed when I looked at them. Marina made me feel like a model, and all in the comfort of my own home. I felt so feminine, gorgeous and sensual.

Truly, it was an unforgettable experience and I’m so thankful I took the leap out of my comfort zone. If you are sitting on the fence then a ‘Zoom boudoir photo shoot’ is perfect for you. Marina will take away any feelings of nervousness and anxiety and she will make you feel like a princess. I can’t wait for the corona crisis to be over so I can book a ‘real life’ boudoir experience. Thank you, Marina, you’re a magician behind the lens. -Miss K”

Those shoots were a bit challenging but they were fun. Most importantly they reminded me that boudoir photo shoots is not about the perceived perfection, they are about the experience. I tell my clients they don't need to have a certain look or be a certain size to have a boudoir experience. I don’t need an expensive camera to help my clients to see themselves through loving eyes, to feel sensual and beautiful.

Yes, quality is important. A virtual boudoir session cant replace a face-to-face boudoir shoot. High quality fine art prints and albums can’t be replaced by blurry screenshots. But an extraordinary situation needs a creative solution. A virtual boudoir shoot is a fun way to connect, explore, and to feel empowered.
