Journey of self discovery
About 6 weeks ago I published a post on Facebook and Instagram. I was giving away a boudoir session including a makeover in a hotel room in Brisbane. I was looking for a woman who stayed positive and strong despite the strokes of fate life has brought her.
The response was overwhelming. I received several emails and messages with interesting and heartbreaking life stories. They were so different but all women had one thing in common: they wanted to step out of their comfort zone and rediscover their femininity through a boudoir session.
At the end, instead of one, I had the privilege to photograph two wonderful women. Two amazing personalities who’s couldn’t be more different. Two boudoir sessions couldn’t be more diverse…
Miss K was one of the first women to contact me and to share her story. I have the honour to share her words and some of her boudoir photographs on my blog.
„Then one day, I looked in the mirror and discovered I was 40 years old and unable to look at myself in the mirror without feeling ill. A lifetime of learning and growing suddenly brought to its needs by an appearance I'd never really paid any attention to before.
Now I have started a new journey of self discovery and acceptance to a level that I have never been to before. I want to be able to look at myself and think "you're looking good lady“ ...It's bloody hard and there's been tears and nerves and anxiety like never before, but I'm getting there.“
Interview with Miss K
1 -Who in your life makes you feel like you’re amazing?
I used to rely on my husband to do it. Now I've found myself in a new chapter where it's something I have to do for myself. It's a journey and I'm not there yet but hopefully one day the answer to this will be a more simple "me".
2 -What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
Stopped a large group of young thugs from pushing two guys through a window and following my instincts when everything else says I shouldn't.
3 -Share 5 things you like about yourself?
5? Hmm... calves, teeth, sense of humour, brain and... my ability to make life through pregnancy.
4 -Tell me a little about your life.
Born in NZ. Lived in NZ Canada Ireland and Australia. Married with 5 kids ranging from 2 to 22 years old. Overcome some terrible personal experiences that have shaped me to be who I am
5 -What in your life are you most grateful for?
My children and health. And waking up each day.
6 -What is your happiest memory?
The birth of my fourth child. The time between contractions when she was being born was the most amazing feeling of elation I've ever experienced.
7 - If six year old you was here right now, what would you say to her?
You are good enough.
